Hours: Banked Hours Contract

1x All Shifts (alternating project work) 06.00 - 14.00 / 14.00-22.00 / 22.00 - 06.00


Purpose of the job:


To ensure the effective management of daily/weekly productivity, quality, H&S, food safety, costs, GMP with hygiene, downtime management, waste and people and to strategically maximise efficiency & drive change through CI and Lean Manufacturing.




  • Planning Horizon: 6 weeks ahead for production and 1 year for staff and machinery
  • Line management: Up to 5 Supervisors, 15 Team Leaders plus up to 150 indirect reports per shift
  • Production Lines: Up to 13


Result areas

  • To continuously improve safety standards throughout the department/unit resulting in a reduction in accidents and increase near miss reporting in line with CSM KPI’s
  • To set audit ready hygiene and GMP standards on all production lines monitored by internal audit scores and ensure all corrective actions completed on time in full.
  • To be actively involved in NPD projects which affect your department
  • To carry out root cause analysis and solving of all production related issues with a zero loss based approach.
  • To deliver daily, weekly and monthly KPI’s on waste, yield, CCP’s, accidents, changeovers, RFT, Food Safety, efficiency, cost control & cleaning standards.
  • To proactively identify and implement improvements to drive efficiency in these areas in a timely and accurate manner
  • To decide levels of flex labour required
  • To lead the daily review meeting and follow up any actions
  • To coach and develop section leaders to develop a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Escalate departmental issues in line with current procedure
  • To manage the performance and behaviour of all team members in line with current procedures (conducting conduct investigations, disciplinaries (up to final written warning), grievances & appraisals
  • To assume the role of Senior Manager on site outside normal hours in event of emergency
  • To promote & support the operator asset care program.
  • To drive company culture – leading through demonstrating behaviour in line with Company culture
  • To adhere to company local and UK safety regulations
  • To work closely with the support functions to ensure all supply chain demands are met.
  • To lead Continuous Improvement with the support of the Manufacturing Engineer based around productivity improvement using tools such as Success Sheets, Speedy Kaizens and 5 Why analysis
  • To lead departmental training – create training plans to ensure adequate skills available
  • To lead department training meeting through the uses of skills matrices and develop a rolling plan
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Manufacturing Managers
  • Carry out all responsibilities and practices with the aim of producing food safely and to required internal & external specifications within a HACCP framework
  • Generate top three issues and action them


Required Skills:


  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in Supervisory Management
  • Strong technical background or proven relevant experience
  • Comprehensive management experience within an FMCG company
  • Line management experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience of coaching and mentoring teams and delivering results through people
  • H&S knowledge, financial control and reporting, hygiene & GMP, people & leadership, communication skills, training levels, technology & process knowledge, Continuous improvement techniques & tools, time management, proactive, logical approach to problem solving.
