Bulk Unloader Receiver

Purpose:

The bulk unloader is responsible for receiving and unloading these ingredients according to the procedures listed below. Documentation is kept at the bulk unloaders desk and in the lab.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility includes the management of activities for the safety, integrity, legality and quality of our food products.
  • Inspect the condition of the car and verify the car number, seal numbers, and seal integrity against the BOL
  • Inspect the unloading hoses for cleanliness and hook up the railcar to the proper bin and can begin unloading.
  • Measure and monitor the bulk storage bins to assist in proper ingredient control.
  • Accurately prepare/distribute bin reading chart
  • Consult with material planner regarding daily/weekly ingredient requirements
  • Prepare and fax switch note to railroad – organize placement of railcars
  • Unload all flour and oil trucks into the correct bins.
  • Change sugar filters when necessary
  • Assure that all railcars have been completely unloaded before releasing them to the railroad.
  • Follow all Plant Safety rules and specific rules for the Bulk Unloading Area, such as wearing fall protection
  • Complete, monitor, and file all paperwork required  
  • Enter all necessary data on computer
  • Communicate with the other Bulk Unloaders every day.
  • Keep bulk unloading area and tank farm clean and presentable.
  • Remain in and monitor bulk unloading area except for breaks and job requirements
  • Be available for overtime work and flexible hours if/when needed
  • Assists supervision in proactively identifying problems and providing solutions.
  • Recognizes and reports any signs of product tampering.
  • Maintains cleanliness on line and 5S standards.  Equipment and work areas must be kept organized, clean and sanitary throughout the shift.  End of shift requires removal of any waste and garbage generated during the shift.  Ensure proper care of equipment.
  • Follows all safety procedures and participates in safety training. Maintains safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and PPE. Reports any injury, accident or unsafe condition immediately to supervisor.
  • Supports product safety, quality and legality.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.

Knowledge/Competencies:

  • Be able to work outdoors in every kind of weather, year around. Exposure to extreme weather conditions as required.
  • Be able to lift and carry the unloading hoses, vibrator, magnet and other supplies needed.
  • Be able to climb up the side of a railcar, and the side of a truck. Must use fall protection equipment as required.
  • Be able to use sufficient force to hook up the unloading fittings, which requires bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, and hammering.
  • Be able to use a rubber sledge hammer to pound on cars and bins.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, speak and write English so as to assimilate, retain, and apply training and knowledge of job functions and recognize and communicate problems and recommended solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Able to work well in a team setting.
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to work alternate shifts, overtime and/or weekends as required
  • Must be able to wear company provided uniform.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand for a prolonged time, walk, climb steps and work on elevated platforms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Skills/Work Experience:
